Cy Vase Max: Sunset in Ipanema

Pale washes of aqua and cream cover this ceramic vase by Gianfranco Briceño, with a winged figure sketched across the body and a row of raised gold medallions ringing the flared rim. The loose, watery surface and torn lip give the form its movement. Each piece begins with Briceño's sketching process before being handmade in high temperature ceramic, worked in engobes, oxides, glazes, and gold.

Briceño is a Peruvian ceramicist, sculptor, painter, and photographer based in São Paulo, Brazil whose work draws from ancient Greek and pre-Inca cultures.
